7 Star Charity Home Project Launch

5 November 2008

The Ballarat Foundation in partnership with the University of Ballarat and Integra Group has joined forces to build a 7 Star, Low Energy Charity Home. To be officially launched tomorrow, Thursday 6 November, the project will highlight the variety of sustainable options available to residential living with proceeds of the home’s eventual sale going to The Ballarat Foundation. Once completed the 7 Star Low Energy Charity Home will be open to the public for at least three months and provide an opportunity for prospective home builders, potential buyers and interested members of the community to discover low-energy and sustainable living options. Chair of The Ballarat Foundation James Coghlan said the project had many benefits to the wider Ballarat community. “This is a unique project, which will benefit a wide range of people. We hope that through the project the community will discover that building a sustainable, low-energy home can be achieved affordably,” Mr Coghlan said. “On top of this the proceeds from the home will further support the work of The Ballarat Foundation throughout the region and help raise its profile,” he said. The University of Ballarat has provided independent advice to the project through its National Centre for Sustainability and will also establish a water and energy efficient garden through its Horticultural Department. The Ballarat Foundation is a community foundation benefiting Ballarat and surrounding areas through a range of philanthropic activities. In the last seven years, the Foundation has distributed almost $1,000,000 into the Ballarat community for a wide range of projects.
